Full of joy
It is composed by the famous musician Liu Mingyuan (1931-1996) in 1958. The music is ABA structured. The A part is adapted from a folk song, "Saling plaster", of Shanxi province. The B part is adapted from another folk song, "Grinding cake", of Shanxi province. The A part is lively and cheerful, and the B part is emotional and pleasant. The music is played with Chinese traditional instruments. In the last half century, this music was very popular in China, and became also some famous internationally. It is one of the most played Chinese New Year music.
Rising
It is composed by the famous musician Nv Wencheng (1898-1981). The main melody of the music is played with Gaohu, a kind of string instrument invented by Nv Wencheng. The music is lively, passionate and changeful. It contains a strength which inspires the upgoing aspirations of the audience. It is one of the most played Chinese New Year music.
Booming flowers and full moon
It is originally an Erhu music composed by the famous musician Huang Yijun (1915-1995) in 1935. In 1950s', Peng Xiuwen, one of the most important Chinese folk music masters in the modern time, adapted it into a symphony of Chinese traditional instruments. The music is elegant, passionate and cheerful. It is one of the most played Chinese New Year music.
Spring festival overture
It is the first episode of the "Spring Festival suite". However, it is often played as a separate music for Chinese New Year celebration. "Spring Festival suite" expresses the cheerful scenes of Chinese New Year celebration in Shan Bei region. It adopted elements of the traditional Yangge melody and folk songs of Shan Bei region. It was originally a symphony played by western instruments, but was adapted into a symphony of Chinese traditional instruments. The first part of "Spring Festival overture" expresses the singing and dancing scenes for Chinese New Year celebration. It is passionate and cheerful. The middle part expresses the scene of individual dances. It is exciting and pleasant. This part is mainly played with "Zhongyinjiajian Suola", a kind of wind instruments, invented by Chinese musicians. The instrument is a combination of Chinese traditional Suola and western clarinet, and has comparatively higher toner than western clarinet. The original composer of "Spring Festival suite" is the famous musician, Li Huanzhi (1919-2000). "Spring Festival overture" is one of the most played Chinese New Year music.
