事关休戚已成空,万里相思一夜中。
愁到晓鸡声绝后,又将憔悴见春风。
Translation
Chinese New Year's Eve
Poet: Lai Ge of Tang Dynasty
Either happy or unhappy imagination will not be true. I missed home from a thousand of miles away whole night.
My sadness is still being after the morning cocks have crowed, and I will meet the spring winds with my haggard face.
The poet had planned to return home to celebrate Chinese New Year and imaged how it would be when he met in his hometown. But he couldn't return home at last. He lost sleep because of missing. It is a sad Chinese New Year poem.
