Chinese New Year plants

In the Chinese New Year festival, many Chinese families like to put some auspicious plants in home. Just like other Chinese New Year decorations, the plants are both for increasing the festive atmosphere and for blessing the families. Chinese like to choose the plants with one or more auspicious elements, such as, red color, auspicious name, beautiful outlook, etc. Many Chinese believe Feng Shui, so they like to choose some plants which can increase the good Feng Shui in their homes. The following plants are the most popular Chinese New Year plants.

1. Hong Yun Dang Tou
Hong Yun Dang Tou have an anscipious name and very beautiful flowers and leaves. Their formal names are Guzmania conifera. Except the mentioned reasons, there are some other elements making them popular Chinese New Year plants: first, the flowers are red; second, they are Feng Shui plants; Hong Yun Dang Tou have big, thick and evergreen leaves which indicate that the plants are good for the lucks, especially money lucks, of the households.

2. Peng Lai pine
Peng Lai pines are a kind of miniascape bred from pines. They are popuplar Feng Shui plants. According to Feng Shui theories, they animate the eight kinds of desires of people, therefore they make people more upgoing. Many Chinese believe that Peng Lai pines can bring good money luck to them, if they are put in the southeast; they can enforce the good health luck of the household, if they are put in the east; they can enforce career luck, if they are put in the south or north.

3. Rich bamboo
In Chinese cultrue, bamboo are anspicious plants. In addition, they are elegant, beautiful and are easy to plant. Therefore they are popular home plants. There are several kinds of rich bamboo. Each of them has an auspicious name. For example, the rich bamboo in tower form are called as "Good luck bamboo".

4. Money tree (Pachira macrocarpa)
Money trees have an anspicious name, and are at the same time a kind of Feng Shui plant. They are evergreen and have big and beautiful leaves. Putting them in the southeast, they can enforce the good money luck to the households.

5. Golden money tree (Zamioculas zamiifolia)
They are also a kind of Feng Shui plants. They are typical foliage plants with strong, channeling and twinkling leaves. They are imported from Africa in recent years. To improve the money luck of the household, a golden money tree should be put in the eastsouth.

6. Potted citrus
They are a kind of traditional Feng Shui plants. Their fruits are symbol of good luck. Many Chinese believe that the fruits should be kept on the trees as long as possible to keep the good Feng Shui function of the trees.

7. Sowbread
The flowers are elegant and pleasant, and they have a beautiful Chinese name. Many families like to decorate their living rooms with sowbreads.
